Message From The Principal

                                                                                               August 2022

Dear Parents and Families of Van Deene Elementary,

I want to warmly welcome you to the 2022-23 school year. As I am embarking my fourth year here at Van Deene Elementary, my commitment has not faltered and I am extremely invested in our school and community. This journey with you all (students, parents, teachers, staff members, community) has demonstrated to me that our school is filled  with resilient,  amazing, and talented people. We are embracing the vision of an energized learning community that prepares all students to become successful lifelong learners in our competitive world. We have been through a lot together, and I am positive that this school year, with everyone’s support  we will have another successful year! This school  year we will continue to implement strategies to increase students’ motivation, grow their academic self-efficacy, and build their confidence in taking responsibility for their own learning. I have set my priorities as follows:

  • Safety, Security & attendance

  • Social Emotional Learning-focus on KINDNESS

  • Acceleration of Learning for all Students in ELA & Math

  • Intervention  for students in need of  support in ELA and/or Math

  •  Enrichment: music, dance, art, theater

We will continue to provide resources to enrich students’ education with intervention and enrichment such as continuing our Language Arts and Math Lab support.

I am extremely excited to work and see you all, and  I look forward to a successful and positively energized school year. I thank you all for your support and understanding, for together we will continue to navigate this unprecedented time in education together.  My door is always open, ongoing communication is essential.

Stay safe,

Edith Urzua-Soto~Principal
