    About Our School

Van Deene Avenue Elementary is an ETK-6th-grade school, including a PALS program, in a quiet Torrance, California neighborhood with 340  diverse students. We are a part of LAUSD and Local District South.

Our teachers provide students with high-quality instruction through the use of teaching the Common Core State Standard (CCSS). Also, we have a focus on STEAM education which is an educational approach of learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math to help access the core curriculum.  For Math, we use Cognitive Guided Instruction (CGI) to teach our students a child-centered approach to teaching math, and through the use of the Math Workshop Model.

Van Deene has terrific learning opportunities for all types of learners. And to incorporate the STEAM approach, We have a piano lab, science lab, an art studio and a school garden where all students can experience a hands-on curriculum. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that our students succeed in college, career, and life!
