PALS- Kinder Grade Teachers

Leticia, Barnes                                PALS (Room 1)

I have been teaching since 1986 and have spent my entire career at Van Deene Elementary. I have taught the Preschool Aphasia Program as well as the Preschool for All Learners (PAL) Program. I have a B.A. and a M.A. in Communicative Disorders from CSULB. I have also earned a Clinical Rehabilitative Services Lang/Spch/Hear credential from CSULB and an Early Childhood credential through the LAUSD District Intern Program. Teaching young children has always been my passion. Watching them learn and grow brings me great joy!

Minami, Virginia                              ETK (Room 2) 

I have been teaching for LAUSD since 1986. Most of those years have been in kindergarten or preschool but I taught 1st and 3rd as well. I have my B.A. in Classical Civilizations and M.Ed. from UCLA. I have always known that I wanted to teach and taught at church while still a student. I also teach taiko in two locations. I want everyone to love coming to school and think that learning is fun. So come to school and let’s have some fun!

Zepeda, Keisha                              PALS (Room B)

Mrs. Zepeda graduated from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, Ca. and has a BA in Liberal Arts and a MA in Special Education. She has a multiple subjects credential, education specialist credential, and early childhood special education credential. As National Board Certified teacher she's been in education for 26 year in various capacities including Math Coach and Literacy Coach. She taught General education including 3rd and 4th grade. As a special education teacher she's taught resource, PCC and currently PALS.

Avalos, Leticia                                     TK (Room 7)

I have been teaching since 1999 and have taught grades ETK-3 and intervention in grades 4-5. I have a B.A. in Spanish (Language & Literature) from CSUDH and a M.A. in Education with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education from National University. I received my teaching credential through the LAUSD District Intern Program. I am currently working on my Doctor of Philosophy in Early Childhood Education. As long as I can remember, I always knew I wanted to be a teacher! I am a fun loving person that loves working with children. I teach and care for all students as if they were my own. I also enjoy learning from my students, just as much as I hope they learn from me!
